Kitchen, Balkumari
A family kitchen in Balkumari, planned as a working run with a separate timber island.
A Nepali household kitchen does heavy daily cooking, which is not what an open display kitchen is designed for.
The wet and hot work is therefore kept on one continuous run against the wall with full-height storage at both ends, and the timber island is set apart from it as the place where people actually stand — serving, eating, and staying out of the cook's way. Open shelving is limited to a single bay so the rest of the room does not become a dusting job.
