Concept studyLeisure infrastructure for public use
A study for a public leisure block on a corner site in Maharajgunj — courts, pool and gardens carried on the roof of a covered hall.
A concept study by the studio, not a commissioned or completed civic work.
It asks what a whole city block could do if leisure were treated as infrastructure rather than as a private club behind a wall. A long glazed and trussed hall runs the length of the site over a planted water court, and the sports ground — courts, a pool, lawns and shaded pavilions — is lifted onto its roof, which is how a dense corner of Kathmandu can have both a building and open ground on the same land.
The street corner is given back as a public plaza with stepped water, and the perimeter is built as a timber-louvred frame so the block is porous rather than a blank edge. Trees are planted at both levels.

A study, not a completed building. It is published because the thinking is ours.
